Something got into me to explore various philosophical themes of nonfiction books at a stretch. Started with Heidegger and now Derrida, I must admit that this author has delivered what they have promised to offer with less taxing excerpts. The concept of deconstruction is quite complex with un-decidability as the core which might be hard to apply the logic in the everyday stance. May be this is my personal view here, but undeniable of its application to linguistics elements. Is Derrida’s thoughts are like nihilism by any chance or a directive of transcendental solipsism. Either ways good to embrace the revolutionary thinking to succeed in a metaphysical procedure. The quote such as “Writing is a remedy for deficient memory and limited wisdom” and “As for wisdom, you offer your students a mere appearance of it, not the reality” shows his conceptual elaboration and intrusive thought seeding skills. So as an introduction this book serves right. Simply go for it without any second thoughts.
I came across this amazing book in a library a few times and now able to finish it in a single sitting. Well, philosophy has a reputation for being abstract concepts which makes it less engaging to hold the interest, but the author has done a commendable job of simplifying with graphical illustrations. There are many unfamiliar verbose, which has a meaning that are encountered on a day to day life and this shows prominence of the historical settings. I felt like exploring a concoction of traditional territories on a future prospects by providing a space to discover the mystery of existence and essence of life. This persuades me to check the Heidegger’s famous work ‘Being and Time’ and hope to share my views as well. My favorite quote is this “To think of beings as a whole is to think of concealment and absence. Those that do not appear for us and are not presences are unimaginable absences”. Truly astonished and spellbound by its epiphany.
I was looking for some answers for my personal growth and was fortunate to have grabbed this self help book from the library. As the title suggests the core wisdom here is to spend one minute of each day to reveal our true potential for success in life and social well-being. And the ways to go about it is explained through a conversation between two people. I am incapable to give justice in a few words and easy to critique any works, but we are talking about books that are stand apart and makes an impact in some way. This one scores a ton in my honest views for its many positive thoughts, quotes and ideas that is simple to work on. This quote “Within each of us is a part of us that knows what is best for us” and “Now I spend less time trying to be loved by others and more time loving others” stole my heart. I want to end this review with this closing quote “Peace begins with me” and “The answer lies within me”. Spectacular and astounding work by the author.
I picked this book for its size more than the content and tried to focus on the statement by the author, then I thought may be its not bad after all from the simple explanations of self analysis and easy doable exercises at the end of each chapter which proves to be worth the time. I dislike self help books that talk about complex issues with pretentious suggestions when it’s execution is a Herculean task and boring. But the author has made sure to include achievable goals through its approachable tasks. So happy to have chosen this book and kept me well informed till the end. That’s all it matters.
I came across this book after watching TED talk by the author about the link to menopause and the brain. It was an eye opener for many burning questions that I had and happy to have found a book that explains the interesting details. The starting talks about the importance of hormones followed by the repercussions of taking the antidepressants, cough medications and hormonal supplements which alters the brain chemistry in the long run thus paving for welcoming Alzheimer’s disease. Whenever menopausal women discuss their hot flashes as main issues never imagined to be a problem originating from the brain since the phenomenon is termed as vasomotor for a reason. In all this, points towards the tasks and activities one may need to slow down the onset of Alzheimer’s is worth the read and the recipes at the end of the book gives us the completeness one wish for. Try it to see it for yourselves and do not forget to share your views.
